Butoh Workshop in Aegina

It is with great joy that we invite you to participate in the second Butoh workshop with master Yumiko Yoshioka, which will take place on Aegina Island at the end of May 2025.This year, Yumiko will focus on the "Antenna Exercises," as she calls them, through which we will discover new dimensions of our bodies and existence, activating hidden layers of consciousness and expression.

Butoh is an art that invites us to explore the unknown within and around us, to let go of what no longer serves us, and to allow ourselves to transform. This year, Yumiko will focus on the "Antenna Exercises," through which we will discover new dimensions of our bodies and existence, activating hidden layers of consciousness and expression.

If you have already participated in Yumiko’s first workshop in Aegina, we eagerly welcome you again for a deeper experience. If you have not yet come into contact with the world of Butoh, this is the perfect opportunity to discover it and experience the dance of transformation.

We look forward to seeing you in Aegina for another magical meeting and exploration of Butoh under Yumiko Yoshioka’s guidance!

Warm regards,Aliki Georgoulopoulou & Marianna Tsagkaraki (ALMA)

P.S. Please send us a brief biography, so that Yumiko can have a better understanding of your previous experiences.

2025: The Year of the Snake, The Year of Transformation, which includes growth through shedding our old skin. This year, I would like us to focus on the "Antenna Exercises," which can help us become something unknown through specific physical movements, images, and breathing, which I call "antenna." These exercises can activate something unconscious within us.Butoh is a dance of transformation, to become something and eventually be "that." The outcome, however, is not what matters, but the enjoyment of the process of becoming, changing, shedding something old, and discovering something new.Through the continuous exploration of our collective memories, we can tap into an abundant vein of creative resources, enriching the essence of our lives. The body is a vessel of time. The resonance of the body is the key to opening the doors of a world that constantly changes both inside and outside of us, helping the body to reveal its secrets, holding them up until they shine and tremble. Everything resonates with everything. Through a dialogue with our bodies, we can learn to move from internal and external forces, thereby realizing that we are part of the Universe. An inevitable dance of transformation appears.— Y. Yoshioka

Yumiko Yoshioka – Japan / BerlinYumiko Yoshioka is a Japanese Butoh dancer and choreographer. She was a member of the first female Butoh group, Ariadone, founded by Ko Murobushi and Carlotta Ikeda in 1973. In 1989, she began to develop and teach her own method of body work, which she called "Body Resonance." This method became the foundation of her career and reflects her deep understanding of the importance of body awareness, not only for dance and expression but also for our daily lives, opening us to deeper layers of our inner world and discovering a subtle beauty in every moment. The power of this perception led Yumiko to create her own method of body work, called "Body Resonance."
